Here's my geeky entry, although I would probably argue she's more a bit dorky than geeky. Then again, Analog can be pretty darned geeky. I like her though, and I know a twelve year old Alicia would have been super envious of all her posters (and the bamf doll!), all tucked away with her dreamy, dorky pin-ups. I like to think that maybe she has a secret school crush on the Plot Twist boy from last week.
I had a blast thinking up all the dork-out posters I would've fawned over, and putting in all the little details. Oh, and pen and ink on bristol with digital color, by the way.
In other news, I got in to the Radical Nautical show at Gallery Lombardi! My Naked Mermaids and one other piece (which I have yet to post on here) will be in the show, so good times. Reception is on August 2, 7-10:00pm, so if you're in Austin, come check it out. Pin It

Love it! Although I don't know what to think about the Simon the Chipmunk poster on the wall. ;)
Who are the dudes in the plaid shirt and turtleneck sweater?
Love this! Great details too. When I was a girl, I had lots of Duran Duran posters up on my walls, so I can relate to this geeky girl. She's a cutie. Good work.
1) Han Solo
2) Simon
3) They Might Be Giants
4) Talking Heads
5) Superman
6) Batman
7) Spock
8) Legolas
How close did I get?
This picture is super sweet. I love the detail.
Oh and Harry Potter.
This really is great. I love her geeky look of adoration.
Wonderful and fun!
What an adorable illo! I must admit I am unclear on the subtle differences between geek, nerd and dork.
ok...i think i can clarify this -
and, since it's timely, we'll use harry potter.
GEEKS - will go see the movie and be really psyched about it.
DORKS - will go in approximately 2 hours from now, for the first showing, at midnight.
NERDS - will go at midnight tonight, dressed to the nines in wizard gear, asking for their tickets by exclaiming "ACCIO TICKET!"
and, since i knew that but am not going tonight but thursday, i um, am a geek. :)
this is AWESOME, alicia! my husband could name ALL on the wall...and that's one HECK of an endorsement as to how you nailed it. wonderful job! :)
I like it!!!
What a great illustration!
Love the colors!
HA! This rocks! I forgot you had a crush on Simon the Chipmunk! I love the color too.
Wow, thanks for all the kind comments, everyone!
Emma - The Simon the Chipmunk was put in there because it's a family joke. When I was little (VERY little), I totally thought he was the best. Now I get teased by my brothers for having had a crush on Simon the Chipmunk, but it's all in fun. I mean at least it gives me huge dork cred, right? By the time I was this girl's age though, all my pin ups were Johnny Depp, 90210 guys, and err, Clark Gable. : ) And the guys you are wondering about are They Might Be Giants.
Kennon - Kudos to you! I guess they're all a bit self explanatory, but I'm impressed you could recognize the lamp obscured David Byrne. Too bad you can't read all the book spines on the web - in real life she has quite the collection (even a Lovecraft book!).
Nancy Bea - TheFridayFrog did a pretty good job at breaking it down. I get mixed up with it all myself. I think it's one of those things that everyone defines in their own terms, which is why it was so fun to see the IF entries.
TheFridayFrog - Well, consider me a dork, because I did go to the first screening last night. But, let me say that here in Austin we have the most awesome chain of theaters called the Alamo Drafthouse (www.drafthouse.com), and they make the first night of a big movie truly spectacular. It'd be a shame go on a regular old night. Kudos to your husband for being a fellow geek/dork/nerd, whichever he may be!
Again, thanks y'all for all the compliments. I did have such a dorky good time doing it. : )
er, alicia... i need to be re-labeled. my husband just told me to watch my typos and i pointed my stylus at him and yelled "STUPIFY!"
and, if i COULD have gone last night, to a place like that in austin, i would have worn my gryf scarf and glasses for sure! :))
Wow. That is such a tight work. I really like the subdued palette.
While you got most of the hunks, I think you forgot Jamie Bamber from BSG. My fiance thinks he's pretty hot and I must agree.
However, Jamie has nothing on The Johns...
WOW! alicia, i'm amazed at your recent posts and your overall geekiness. but what else is new... :)
i, too, really like the limited color palette that you chose. however, i might have made the girl and the floating imaginary heart above her head stand out a tinnnnnnyyyyy bit more (esp. the heart). still, i love this piece. great job!
great post. it is obvious that you put a lot of thought (or maybe yourself?) into it. also diggin the twist take on the IF's theme. good luck with the blog!
I love it! I like her sweet face and the glasses are precious! the detailed room with all the posters and books..and her bed..this is awesome work..and the colours! lovely!
Absolutely wonderful drawing. I love the fact that Simon is in there. Heehee...
thanks for the comment on my blog and yeah, i noticed that simon did a cameo in your illustration too. i came up with the idea to do him when i read the news that a live action movie of alvin and the chipmunks was in the works. thanks again!
So awesome. It's good that you would go after Simon, because that means that Jeanette would be ALL MINE! Who's the tiny little dude above the apple cup?
Simon was totally hunky.. all the posters are awesome with geeky coolness, but my favorite geeky item is the apple mug. It should say something like “drink different.”
I just remembered that as a kid I had this He-Man and the Masters of the Universe poster. I think it came with one of the action figures. I miss that poster..
This is Brilliant!!
away with thee to ipsot!! a brilliant career awaits.
I love this little geeky girl!
I rocognized Spock, TMBG (seen them 3 times), Harry Potter, Simon Chipmunk, Han Solo, Batman, Superman, Legolas, Apple logo, Nightcrawler (one of my faves), and Analog sci-fi digest. I can't read the books but I can see P.K.Dick and Contact. I shoulda guessed Dvid Byrne by The Big Suit (seen him twice)! Banner... Brown University?
I love her love-sick wiggly arms! :)
